The World, 2021, screenprint*
These pieces build upon a series of works that is now 6 years in-the-making: DreamScape. This series began as a simple colored pencil drawing in response to the prompt “let your imagination fly,” and has since evolved to encompass a variety of media, three of which I am investigating this semester: colored pencil, acrylic, and screenprinting.
Over the years, this dreamy world has gained a deeper lore connected to high fantasy and the four classical elements. The main figure, as of yet unnamed, moves around a surreal landscape, encountering animal spirits that embody elemental power drawn from the moon. Because of this important distinction among the elements of water, earth, fire, and air, distinct color palettes are used when representing places and objects within each element’s domain, with colorful circles acting as little orbs of energy centered around elementally charged objects.
